Barbara Dancing the Cosmic Tides

I created this Fabric Art Piece for a friend that is being challenged with cancer.
The finished work is 14" x 14", quilting, embroidery and bead work.
I had a dream and in this vision Barbara is the Ankh with her face as the Crown Chakra, she has pyrope garnets on her hands and feet and in her heart and she is dancing through the Milky Way and the cosmos.

I see the symbolism this way:
·         ANKH:  A symbol of everlasting life, of power, wisdom and great strength.
·         CROWN CHAKRA:  The lotus flower for pure consciousness, the cosmic consciousness center.  Violet is made from Red (matter) and Blue (spirit).
·         PYROPE GARNET:  Bestows vitality and charisma, and promotes an excellent quality of life.

In every stitch, there is a prayer with love and a wish for quality of life.

Meadow Life Wall Hanging

MEADOW LIFE
I made this quilt/wall hanging for a challenge at the local quilt shop Buttonwood Quilts in Greenacres, Florida. The challenge was to purchase two yards of Northcott Solid Fabrics, I got eight different colors of fat quarts, we could use as much or as little of the solids.  I finished this project in three weeks.  Hours of design work, machine applique, and machine quilting.  Very fun but i have never entered a contest before.  I give my work away generally. So if you like this please go to the Buttonwood website and look at all of the entries and vote for your favorite.  BTW mine is number 10.  :-)  I decided to do a wall hanging in the style of Jane Sassaman, I took a class with her at a quilt seminar back in , i think 2004. I made a wall hanging titled "Life on Mars" (see below).

Quilt- Cathie's Crazy Cat Quilt

Way  back in 2003 mu BFF Susan and I went to the Empty Spools Seminar at Asilomar in Walnut Creek, California.  We took a class with Sandi Cummings called "Beyond the Block".  Of course we pick the brightest colors we can find, screaming orange and green, blues and purples!  Well I got quite a bit done, then felt like I was painting my self into corners, so I put the UFO (Un-Finished Object) in the cabinet and periodically would bring it out continue on, paint into corners and put it away. Well in the summer of 2011 I decided that this was not going to get the best of me, and persevered and finally finished the quilt!  I call it my Crazy Cat Quilt because of all the Laurel Burch fabrics!
I learned various techniques and use them in other quilts.  The finished quilt is fun and I am so glad I completed the project.
